Tblisi GS: Players to watch out for

-60kg: Genki Koga (JPN)
Top seed is Lukhumi Chkhvimiani (GEO) but the most exciting player to watch is Genki Koga, the son of the legendary Toshihiko Koga, who is ranked 7th. He has really good groundwork.

-66kg Denis Vieru (MDA)
He is the top seed. Excellent tai-otoshi and generally a great technician. Beautiful judo.

-73kg Manuel Lombardo (ITA)
He is the 10th seed but on a good day, he can beat the best in the world.

-81kg: Tato Grigalashvili (GEO)
The top seed and probably the best Georgian player of any weight category right now. He has big throws and a big variety of throws too.

-90kg: Beka Gviniashvili (GEO)
An “old guard” who has been around for a long time now but is actually still quite young. Massive throws to the right and to the left. Always exciting to watch. He is the second seed here.

-100kg: Ilia Sulamanidze (GEO)
He is the top seed and one of the most promising up-and-coming players from Georgia.

+100kg: Levani Matiashvili (GEO)
Seventh seed but probably the most exciting player in this category. He has great throwing abilities and was at one time expected to a be “Riner killer”.

-48kg: Blandine Pont (FRA)
This third seed is a rising star from France. Definitely one to look out for. Last year won her first IJF World Tour title in Zagreb.

-52kg: Distria Krasniqi (KOS)
Seeded third but arguably the most exciting player in this category. Like her former teammate and predecessor in the -52kg category, Majlinda Kelmendi, this Olympic Champion has massive throwing capabilities.

-57kg: Eteri Liparteliani (GEO)
Top seed and certainly the top female athlete from Georgia. She is probably the only female judoka who does the Khabarelli technique on a regular basis. Always exciting judo.

-63kg: Ketleyn Quadros (BRA)
Veteran campaigner, already 34 years of age, still plugging away. She is the top seed here.

-70kg: Ai Tsunoda Roustant (ESP)
The daughter of a famous coach, this third seed, has very nice judo. Always a pleasure to watch her matches.

-78kg: Mayra Aguiar (BRA)
Quite a few top contenders here but we have to go with this very experienced double World Champion. She is ranked third.

+78kg: Nihel Cheikh Rouhou (TUN)
She is the third seed and easily the most famous name among the competitors in this category. Despite being 35 years of age, she is still pushing on.
